Login to Rutger canvas
You can login to Rutgers Canvas via two ways 1. Net ID Login 2. Email Login. Please follow step by step.
NetID Login
- Navigate to canvas.rutgers.edu.
- Click the NetID Login button located on the top of the page.
- Enter your NetID and Password and click LOGIN.
- When you log in, you will see your Canvas Dashboard.
- On the Dashboard, you will only see the courses you have access to.
What is a NetID?
All faculty, staff, students and guests are assigned a Rutgers unique identifier known as a NetID, comprised of initials and a unique number (e.g. jqs23). In order to access many of the electronic services available to you at Rutgers, you need to activate your Rutgers NetID. Your assigned NetID will appear on the activation screen.

- Navigate to canvas.rutgers.edu.
- Enter your Email for the Login ID and the Password.
- When you log in, you will see your Canvas Dashboard.
Email Login – Forgot Password

- Navigate to the Canvas Email Login Page, and click on Forgot password?
- Type your email address and click the Request Password button.
- Return to your email account and sign in. Open the email Forgot Password: Canvas. The sender is notifications@instructure.com.
- Click the “Click here to set a new password” link.
- After you have changed your password, you will be brought back to the Canvas Login Page.
Rutgers Email – ScarletMail
Students – ScarletMail (Gmail) is the official email service for Rutgers Students. You can access this account at mail.scarletmail.rutgers.edu using your NetID and password.
Faculty / Staff – Connect (Office 365) is the official email service for Rutgers Faculty and Staff. You can access this account at connect.rutgers.edu using your NetID and password.
Your alias addresses are personalized email addresses typically in the form of “firstname.lastname@rutgers.edu” to provide an alternate, professional display. It allows the option of a different public address aside from your typical NetID address to provide to others. All mail sent to any alias address that you publicly display will be sent to your delivery address(es).
Getting Started with Zoom – Rutgers Zoom
- Enable Zoom via the Rutgers Service Activation Portal. Zoom accounts are created with email addresses with the format of netid@rutgers.edu.
- Review settings by visiting the Rutgers Zoom Web Portal.
- Customize your profile by adding an image or add a virtual background.
- Enable audio transcription, waiting room, and review Waiting Room email notifications.
- Download the Zoom desktop or mobile app.

Why are my courses not showing up in my account?
If you do not see your courses listed in your Canvas account please review the scenarios below:
Registered in Last 24 Hours: If have registered for your course today or yesterday, wait up to 48 hours for your account to be updated.
Instructor Using a Different LMS: Your Instructor might not be using Canvas this semester. Check the Rutgers Sakai and Rutgers Blackboard learning management system to see if your courses are listed.
Semester Start Date: Most courses are not made available to students until the First Day of the Semester.
Removed for Non-Payment: If you have not confirmed your enrollment or made any payments towards your term bill, the University may withhold your enrollment from the course roster. You can verify you are still registered for your courses on WebReg Rutgers.
Does Rutgers use Blackboard?
Blackboard is currently used alongside others as a learning management system for Rutgers University. Newark and instructors use it for various courses to share content and interactive tools.
However, Rutgers Canvas will replace the multiple systems being used across Rutgers as they are phased out over the next few years.
Can I access Rutgers canvas on a mobile device?
You can access Canvas from any browser on your iOS device. However, for the best user experience, you should view Canvas via the mobile app.
Note that mobile browsers are not supported by Canvas, and features may not function as expected compared to viewing Canvas in a fully supported desktop browser.
