After relocating to Florida, he met Kip Wagner, a fellow treasure hunter.
During that time Roger had a meeting with the noted American engineer Gordon Cooper. His friendship with him paved the advantage of picking the booster rockets for the Apollo Program of NASA. When Darrell was a kid, he used to accompany his father Roger, and took a keen interest in knowing about the booster rockets. At NASA, his desire for exploring the treasure hunting world got fulfilled, dipping more with interest.
In the early 1970s to 1990s, Darrell quit his work at NASA and picked a new interest in exploring many shipwreck spots on the Florida coast. The meeting of Darrell and Cooper was about to take place when in 1978, his father got an invitation to become a part of The Merv Griffin Show. Gordon Cooper, the famous American astronaut was also invited there. And so both Darrell and Cooper met during the show and shared a good bonding. Their bonding turned into an awesome partnership and both initiated in starting a series of treasure hunting.
