TSR Exclusive: A Los Angeles County judge denied bail to Corey Walker, one of four teens accused of killing the late Pop Smoke.
Shaderoom appeared in court this morning when Walker’s lawyer Christopher Darden requested bail for his client, but prosecutors suggest that Walker’s proceedings do not apply to bail under the wording of the law. I have submitted a response to the allegations.
Judge Curtis B. Rappe appears to have agreed with the state and has denied Walker’s bail claim. Walker has been detained until trial so far.
Rappe also said the case was no longer a capital case.Remember, back in July We exclusively reported that the prosecutor had petitioned to abolish the death penalty.
Previously, Darden’s intention Send Walker home prior to the trial. Walker was formally charged in August and faces the possibility of life imprisonment without parole. When we spoke to Deputy District Attorney Hillary Williams, she refused to comment on why her office decided not to seek the death penalty.
The 20-year-old Walker was the only suspect who was an adult at the time of Pop Smoke’s death. He and three boys and men have been accused of killing Pop Smoke during a robbery in February 2020.
In a preliminary hearing, Williams scouts the house a few hours ago when Walker scouts a house, and a teenager shoots a gun to get the ice flashed in his Instagram photo earlier in the day and robs Pop Smoke. He said he knew he was planning to do that.
“They are especially targeting this house, where the victim wants to be there,” Williams said, saying Walker’s actions showed “reckless indifference to human life.”
He will return to court in mid-October. Williams told the judge that he believes the trial will take a total of three to four weeks, including the selection of a jury.
